Chronic Dev Team's Shatter Exploit Patched By Apple, iPad 2 Will Be Jailbroken With Userland Exploit

Earlier, it seems like we will be able to jailbreak the Apple’s iPad 2 tablet due to the fact that the iOS 4.3 Gold Master was easily jailbroken on other iOS devices. However, apple surprised the entire iPhone jailbreak community when they released the latest version of iPad that runs on iOS 4.3 and powered with a new hardware, the A5 dual-core processor. And as a result, all hardware-based exploit has been patched. These include GeoHot’s Limera1n exploit and the Chronic Dev Team’s SHAtter exploit.

For those of you who aren’t aware, SHAtter exploit was discovered by Posixninja of the Chronic Dev Team. However, SHAtter exploit never saw the light, because GeoHot launched his jailbreak tool called Limera1n before the Chronic Dev-Team could get their jailbreak out. Both Limera1n and SHAtter was made use of an A4 chip exploit. Also, other jailbreak tools such as Sn0wbreeze, PwnageTool, and Redsn0w utilizes Limeara1n exploit. Meaning, the aforementioned jailbreak tool will not work on iPad 2 and future iOS devices.

MuscleNerd, the spokesperson of the iPhone Dev Team, recently Tweeted regarding the fix:

"Early testing also seems to show at least one thing SHAtter depends on was gone by March 2010 too :("
"SHAtter can't work at all with the "thing" i referred to gone"
"iPad2 bootrom version iBoot-838.3 means it was compiled March'10. Seems geohot guessed right: limera1n was already closed"

As quoted above, it is very interesting to know that fixes were actually around a year ago, long before the hacks were even released. Anyway, hopefully the Dev Team and iPhone hackers figure out how to resolve this issue. Stay tuned!
