iPhone Location Tracker

Apple has tracked every iPhone and iPad 3G user’s physical location since the release of iOS 4.0, security researchers have discovered, with a secret backup of positions and timestamps kept on any Mac or PC the devices are synchronized with. Alasdair Allan and Pete Warden found that, from iOS 4.0, an unencrypted and otherwise unprotected database of locations has been created for each user, and have even produced an app, iPhone Tracker, to demonstrate exactly how much data is being clandestinely collected.

That database – “consolidated.db” – contains latitude-longitude coordinates along with a timestamp for each point. What prompts each individual record is unknown, but it appears to be using cell-tower triangulation on devices fitted with 3G radios to pinpoint location with varying degrees of accuracy.

Location isn’t the only data it seems that iOS 4.x has been gathering. A list of wireless hotspots the iPhone or iPad has connected to has also been spotted. As the researchers point out, usually data of this sort would require a court order to extract from cellphone companies, but Apple is leaving it on users’ machines in plain text.

Their advice, until Apple responds at least, is to encrypt your iPhone/iPad backups, which can be done by choosing “Encrypt iPhone Backup” in the Options section of iTunes.

The company Leica has introduced the concept of docking station to transforms the iPhone4 into a full camera, enhancing its full-time optics.

Specifications include;

- Corporate rangefinder from Leica
- Leica special application for the iPhone, to replace the standard camera app
- Ability to manually adjust shutter speed and aperture
- Zoom control and volume. Located in the annex, you can control the optical zoom with the zoom lever located on top. Outside of the application will act as a lever to control the volume
- Retained the functionality of iPhone, there are special openings for mini-jacks, light sensor, an external camera

iPad 2 goes 3D without glasses

The guys over at EHCI Research Group have found a rather clever way to track the movement of the user’s head with the front facing camera and, along with some software magic, have managed to create an impressive real-time 3D experience on Apple’s own iPad.



The app does not use either gyroscope or accelerometer to function. It is merely using front facing camera available on iPad2. How cool is that...



Of course it also runs on iPhone4...

And this technology has been around at least 3-years ago as indicated by this youtube video... It is amazing that this technology only known to me when iPad2 is released :-)

Apple Sues Samsung Over Galaxy, accuses them of copying iPhone and iPad

Apple has just filed a lawsuit against Samsung Electronics claiming the Korean company is copying the “look and feel” of their iPhone and iPad. The suit targets the Galaxy series including the Galaxy S smartphone line of Nexus S, Galaxy S 4G, and Epic 4G along with the Galaxy Tabs.

Samsung’s Galaxy line has been one of the most commercially successful range of Android products to date.

Logitech has entered into a partnership with ZAGG and is reselling the company’s popular ZAGGmate iPad 2 keyboard case.

iPad2 already selling in Malaysia ??

iPad2 device has yet to come officially to Malaysia by Apple store. This must be the activity of "gray-importer" trying to get quick bucks while the iPad2 is still "hot".

Anyway for RM2,388 actually is not so bad for 16GB + wifi.

I will wait for the official release in Malaysia AppStore to get a good price deal. Besides, I have not bored yet with my iPad1.... hahaha

No iPhone5 this coming June-2011 ??

Apple is about to change the tablet scene once again just three weeks after the introduction of the iPad 2. According to numerous sources, the tech giant is expected to announce a special edition iPad at WWDC in June. The new iDevice, which we hear will be called the iPad 2i, will include Retina display and come in three different colors.



Apple’s decision to release the iPad 2i wasn’t made until shortly after the Cupertino, California-based company decided to delay the release of the iPhone 5. Our sources, which want to remain anonymous, indicate Steve Jobs himself initiated work on the newest tablet soon after the iPad 2 was released in the U.S. on March 11.

The Apple CEO, we are told, was concerned that the iPhone 5 delay meant no new hardware would be released at its June 6 event. To fill that void, the iPad 2i was born.

Look ridiculous but it will greatly improve the photo shot of your iPhone.

Sony’s CEO Howard Stringer shared with The Wall Street Journal some interesting details about delays in the production of Sony parts for the next iPhone. By connecting the dots, this has lead the web to find out more about your next iPhone’s camera.

This is an interesting development as Apple currently gets its camera parts from Omnivision. Considering that there have been rumors recently about Apple getting a new, 8MP Sony-made camera for the next iPhone, this could very well confirm the rumor.

Particularly well-suited for low-light conditions, Sony’s new sensors would apparently be a major new feature in the next iPhone. With 8MP, no one should tell you that your iPhone doesn’t take amazing pictures.

Furthermore, this could explain why we’re hearing that Apple will not be launching the iPhone 5 in June.
