Comex JailbreakMe iPad2 Jailbreak Exploit Leaked and Fixed in iOS 4.3.1

Couple of days ago, Comex, the well-known developer behind the JailbreakMe and Spirit jailbreak tool, demonstrated his jailbroken iPad 2 and said that he will release a new jailbreak method – JailbreakMe 3.0? – very soon. Now, unfortunately, Comex has just announced that Apple has fixed the iPad 2 jailbreak exploit in iOS 4.3.1.

Comex Announced following via Twitter:

As noticed by @0naj, my kernel exploit was fixed in 4.3.1.
I try not to be paranoid, but it is really hard to explain this as anything but a leak.
It stayed there from 4.0.2 through 4.3, but was magically found in time for 4.3.1. well, go go @MuscleNerd and @i0n1c I guess

Now, it seems like the Cupertino, California-based Apple is winning the cat and mouse game against iOS hackers. As previously reported, Apple already patched the exploit used in Limera1n jailbreak tool as well as the unreleased SHAtter exploit that was preserved to jailbreak future iOS devices, which include the upcoming iOS 5 and iPhone 5.

But the good news is that a new iPhone hacker, Stefan Esser, is working on a new untethered jailbreak method to jailbreak the iOS 4.3.1 on iPad 2 and on other iOS devices. It is reported that Esser will soon release the beta testing version of his ware. Since this is an untethered jailbreak, you will not have to connect your device into the computer every time you reboot.

At the moment, you will be able to jailbreak – tethered jailbreak - the iOS 4.3.1 on iPhones, iPod Touches, and iPad, using Sn0wbreeze 2.4 beta 1 and PwnageTool 4.2. Stay tuned.

iPad 2 Jailbreak Rumors: New Bootrom Exploit and JailbreakMe

Last week we has informed you that Comex is the first iOS hacker that successfully jailbreak iOS 4.3 on the iPad 2. But today, we will find out a bit more information regarding the highly awaited iOS 4.3 jailbreak. In a reply to a Twitter users asking him regarding the exploit Comex had discovered in iOS 4.3, he said that he utilizes a userland exploit, which means the jailbreak might be applied directly from the device’s operating system, the same exploit used on his previous jailbreak tool JailbreakMe. And since it’s a userland exploit, it can be patched easily with just a simple software update, just like what Apple did with JailbreakMe.

Now, the good news is that, Comex has just confirmed that there's new bootrom exploit discovered by someone to jailbreak iPad 2 running iOS 4.3. Well, he might talking about i0nic’s (also known as Stefan Esser) untethered jailbreak method which is set to release very soon. However, with the rumors of iOS 4.3.1 coming in the next couple weeks, Esser might delay the release date of his untethered jailbreak, or thy might even save this exploit for after the iPhone 5 comes out.

Hoosiermo: @comex: is your new iPad 2 exploit in the boot rom? Or a userland exploit? Kinda curious. I am one of the lucky ones who landed one day one.

Comex: @Hoosiermmo: Userland, but I hear someone has a bootrom vulnerability that they might have exploited.

Though Comex already had a jailbroken iPad 2 on iOS 4.3, we didn’t get much more information about the jailbreak and its release date. It is speculated that this method will work only on iOS 4.3, but this has yet to be confirmed. Stay tuned!
