Unlock iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS Using Ultrasn0w 1.2.1 [Step-By-Step Guide]

Then iPhone Dev Team already released the latest version of Ultrasn0w iPhone carrier unlock tool with iOS 4.3.1 support to unlock jailbroken iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS with old baseband version.
Here’s the official announcement of the iPhone Dev Team regarding their new software:

We’ve pushed out the 4.3.1 compatibility fix for ultrasn0w in Cydia — it’s now at version 1.2.1. If you’re not already at 4.3.1 and you need the unlock, please be sure you understand how to get to 4.3.1 using a custom IPSW that doesn’t update your baseband.

This isn’t a new unlock! It’s to allow those who are already unlocked to use FW 4.3.1. It also fixes the signal bar issue for those who aren’t using the unlock but retain an older baseband intentionally.

AFTER INSTALLING ULTRASN0W 1.2.1, PLEASE REBOOT YOUR iPHONE using the normal “slide to power off” swipe. T-Mobile users in the USA also should disable 3G mode in Settings->General->Network.

ONLY Supported basebands: (01.59.00 / 04.26.08 / 05.11.07 / 05.12.01 / 05.13.04 / 06.15.00.

As quoted above, Ultrasn0w 1.2.1 is not a new unlock and it will not unlock new baseband, but it does allow you to maintain your carrier unlock while upgrading to jailbroken iOS 4.3.1 using PwnageTool 4.3 for Mac Os X or Sn0wbreeze 2.5.1 for Windows to preserve the unlockable baseband of the device.

The new UltraSn0w 1.2.1 has capability to unlock iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS on baseband 01.59.00, 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01, 05.13.04, and 06.15.00. iPhone 3GS user need to update the baseband of their device to iPad’s 6.15.00 in order to unlock. So any baseband that is not listed here is not unlockable. You can check the baseband version of your iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS Settings -> General -> About.

You can follow our step-by-step guide on how to unlock iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS using Ultrasn0w 1.2.1.

Unlock iPhone 4 and iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS with Ultrasn0w 1.2.1

Step 1: First, you need to jailbreak the iOS 4.3.1 on your iPhone 4 using PwnageTool 4.3

Step 3: Select “Edit” and tap on “Add” and type the following repository address in the sources field:
http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com
Step 4: Tap Add Source and wait for it to upgrade.

Step 5: Now make a search for Ultrasn0w 1.2.1 (its zero (0) not an O) in the Search tab at the bottom. Tap it and press Install at the top.

iPhone Unlock Update: Ultrasn0w iPhone 4 Unlock on iOS 4.2.1 and iOS 4.3 Not Yet Ready

Back in January, we reported that the iPhone Dev Team had announced that the official and highly anticipated unlock solution for the iPhone will be released at least a week or two after Apple releases the final version of iOS 4.3 for iPhone iPad, an iPod Touch.

So if you are one of the million iPhone 4 users who are anxiously waiting for the iPhone Dev Team to release the latest version of Ultrasn0w carrier unlocking tool (Ultrasn0w 1.3) to unlock iPhone 4 on iOS 4.2.1 or on iOS 4.3, which was released recently then we have some bad news for you.

MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team has just announced via tweet that iPhone 4 unlock solution is not yet ready, and they still need more time to work things around.

Here’s what MuscleNerd tweets:

“Sorry, there's no news on the i4 unlock for those who lost 01.59 (or never had it). It's taking longer than we wanted :("

Meaning, there’s still no unlock solution for iPhone 4 with baseband 03.10.01 and 02.10.04 (for iOS 4.2.1 and iOS 4.1 respectively). If you’re wondering regarding the iPhone 4 unlock method that Dev Team talked about backed in January then looks like it was SIM dependent:

“there's no way for us to know. We were making great headway with one version til we realized it was SIM dependent (!)”
“I mean dependent on particular SIM :) I have two T-Mobile SIMs, and it behaved different on each (we understand why too)”
The best thing you can do is to buy a factory unlocked iPhone on eBay or other grey market because Apple will keep making it difficult to unlock their iPhone.
