Ultrasn0w Draining iPhone Batteries

iPhone users who unlocked their phones with the latest version of Ultrasn0w are experiencing a sudden decrease in their phone’s battery life. Many users reported that the battery life dropped to an average rate of five percent every hour.

Ultrasn0w 1.0-1 is a tool that unlocks iPhone 4, iPhone 3G, and iPhone 3GS to make them compatible with any mobile carrier.

Ultrasn0w can unlock:

1. iPhone 4 running iOS 4.0 / 4.0.1 with 01.59.00 baseband
2. iPhone 3G, 3GS with 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01 or 05.13.04 baseband

An iPhone user reported that his battery life noticeably dropped even on standby mode after he unlocked it. He said he didn’t make a call or used it for other applications but the battery still showed almost drained.

Another user also shared that after unlocking his iPhone with ultrasn0w, his battery life showed at 100 percent. He then went to sleep and when he checked his phone the next day, it had about 21 percent less power. He added that hi WiFi was turned off, and no apps were running.

Said users eventually removed the ultrasn0w carrier unlock from their phones and found that the this action solved the battery drain problem.

Planetbeing, the developer of ultrasn0w, immediately went on to investigate these claims in order to come up with a patch to counter the flaw.

The iPhone dev team seemed to have succeeded in addressing the issue. Reports indicated that the team has tweaked the carrier unlock ultrasn0w and upgraded it to Ultrasn0w 1.1-1 in order to resolve the drop in standby battery life.
