OpenAppMkt Offers Alternative to iPhone Users

iPhone users who do not want to break their warranties but would like to access other apps aside from what the Apple Store offers may find relief from a new market player.

OpenAppMkt aims to offer Apple Store-like apps without need of jailbreaking. This new player represents a healthy competition with existing players Cydia and Rock Your Phone.

OpenAppMkt is the brainchild of developers Teck Chia, Flora Sun, and Tim Wuu. The group is gunning for a legitimate business for their products and hopes to be accepted in the mainstream.

Their apps are web based and would install in your device without need of a code or jailbreak. It can be accessed thru Mobile Safari, and most of it is reportedly able to run on any mobile device. This means that they can cater to a bigger market of smartphones, not just iPhones.

Apple itself, before the advent of the App Store in 2008, was also installing applications to iPhones through the web. It still maintains a list of about 4,300 web apps to this day.

iPhone users are hoping that OpenAppMkt’s entry into the app scene will better pressure Apple to finally loosen or open up its iOS. Despite the recent legalization of jailbreaking, Apple is still playing hard to get about allowing its users to install what they really want on their iPhones.
