FaceTime Over 3G Now Possible

JailbreakMe’s hot release last weekend had iPhone users on a frenzy to get hold of every applications and features possible! JailbreakMe is a web-based tool for Apple’s iOS devices like iPhone and iPad, and used to open them up for installation of non-Apple-approved apps, customizations, and file access.

JailbreakMe can be remotely activated from iOS devices by going to the JailbreakMe.com webpage and choosing “Slide to Jailbreak” to open up the device.

Apple maintains its stand against legalized jailbreaking and warned that it can cause "instability, disruption of services, and compromised security."”

Intelliborn, for its part, has updated its My3G app and now allows FaceTime video calling over 3Gs. Jailbroken iPhones can normally avail of My3G via Rock Your iPhone for $3.99. It can also be installed via Cydia but would still be dependent on RockApp. It was such a hit that the site has experienced down time due to a high traffic volume. What’s more, users can opt to remove the app via SSH if it becomes bothersome.

My3G fine tunes your apps making it believe that it’s on WiFi instead of 3G. JailbreakMe makes this possible so 3Gs can now support FaceTime calling instead of the usual WiFi only feature initially intended by Apple and AT&T.

The question is: How good does it work in 3G as compared to WiFi? A short Youtube video created by 9 to 5Mac showed that it works perfectly fine, and uses 14.7MB of data for a five-minute call. So go ahead, enjoy!
