JailbreakMe Poses Security Risk to iDevices

JailbreakMe, a web-based jailbreaking tool, has roused a growing concern over iOS security for iPhones and iPads. Reports indicate that JailbreakMe attacks a security hole in iOS allowing a website to write data on your iPhone.

Currently, JailbreakMe can be accessed by going to the Apple’s Safari App.
The jailbreaking tool is then downloaded into the iOS device through a PDF file. The method allegedly attacks a flaw in the iOS PDF viewer in order to gain access to the device.

MacStories said that embedded within the web page is a FlateDecode vulnerability used as a
PDF File. The iOS then separates the PDF file from the web and in the process, it executes some code that allows you to jailbreak your device. It’s said that it is the processing of the embedded font that has the security issue.

This remote access allows anyone to gain access to your iPhones which can prove disastrous even to non-jailbroken iPhone users. This makes it vulnerable to hackers who can remotely plant malware without you knowing what hit your iPhone. The only way to fix it is to jailbreak your iOS to make it immune from such an attack. You need to jailbreak it and install a little code that activates a pop-up window informing you if you want to run a PDF file before allowing it to run.

Experts also suggested that you do not click on links from your MobileSafari. It will be safer to manually type the address if you want to go to other web pages.

JailbreakMe may be the simplest tool ever, however, you have to protect your iDevices from the possible consequences of jailbreaking.
