How to Use MyWi

The iPad and iPhone 4’s high dependence on WiFi has caused a renewed attention to an app that has been disregarded for some time now. Mywi has been around for a while but has not been a must-have app with the previous iPhone models.

With the launching of iDevices iPad and iPhones, MyWi may become one important app. MyWi has also undergone updates in compliance with the iOS 4.

Using MyWi creates a mobile WiFi hotspot with your iPhone so it is important to protect your network with a password. This ensures that no one else will have access to it. You can also choose to keep your device from uninvited guests by turning down the WiFi transmit rate. This works double for you as it also allow you to save on battery.

Another way to illustrate a double saver is to opt for a little WiFi icon that uses no battery as compared to the blue pulsating status bar that uses a lot of your iPhone’s battery power.

MyWi also enables USB tethering in times when you just want to plug it into your laptop or desktop computer.

(Just a note… “Tethering is the use of a mobile device such as a mobile phone to supply Internet access for another device. The mobile device is thus treated as an access point to which other devices connect via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or USB.”)

Lastly, with your MyWi on, you can enjoy FaceTime calls over jailbroken iPhone 3Gs.

MyWi is available from Cydia through the installation of the Rock app that requires you to set up a Rock ID. The app comes with a free 10 day full featured trial.
