iPhone Dev Team to Develop iTunes Alternative For Jailbreaker and Unlockers

Recently, Apple launches the latest version of iTunes media management and digital store in order to support the forthcoming iOS 4.3 and iPad 2, which is geared wit h numerous features and improvements. However, because of some of the anti-jailbreak and the fact that Apple has a capability to block all jailbroken iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch in to their system, some jailbreakers and unlocker are hesitant to upgrade their iTunes.

We all know that the iPhone jailbreak community has their own alternative App Store in form of Cydia, however jailbreakers and unlockers still use Apple’s iTunes to organize their apps, music, photos, contacts, and even when jailbreaking their beloved gadget. But the good news is that the iPhone Dev team is working on a new special iTunes that was specially designed for jailbreakers and unlockers.

Joshua Hill, or most commonly known as p0sixninja, an integral member of the iPhone Dev Team and one of the iPhone hacker that contributed in the iPhone Jailbreak community has reveal that the Dev Team is working on their own iTunes alternative.

Here’s Joshu Hill tweet conversation with an iPhone jailbreaker:

Nhoggan : @p0sixninja Can we please have an alternative to the insufferable piece of shit that is iTunes?!

@p0sixninja:@Nhoggan yes, soon

Nhoggan :@p0sixninja WOW, seriously?!?! That’d be frickin awesome!!! Definitely look forward to that! We’re talking 6 months or more though, right?

@p0sixninja :@Nhoggan yes, still under heavy development

Well, as quoted above, the new Dev Team project is in early development stage. And if they’re planning to mimic iTunes, it is expected that they need much time to accomplish it. The iTunes alternative should have the basic features of the legit iTunes, such as ability to manage (Cydia) apps, sync iOS devices, and play media, and a lot more. Including managing upgrades and downgrades of custom ipsw / firmware just like PwnageTool and it will navigate through SSH.

Hopefully, iPhone Dev team release this awesome tool before the year ends. Stay tuned.
