Using Limera1n to Jailbreak iOS 4.0 and 4.1 on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad and iPod Touch

If you have an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch that is operating on the iOS 4.0 or 4.1 then you will be delighted to hear that Geohot has released the Limera1n tool. This was formerly known as GreenPois0n and it can be used to jailbreak the iOS 4.0 and iOS 4.1. This new tool can be used on the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad, iPod Touch 3G and 4G. The new Limera1n is an untethered jailbreak and it can be used for all the services that have been listed above. At the moment this jailbreaking tool is only available for use on Windows but according to the information obtained form www.limera1n.com it will be available for both Mac and Linux in the near future.

There were some issues with Limera1n on its release and some fo these have been fixed already including the new bootrom on Cydia with the iPhone 3GS and the fact that some devices did neet to reboot in order ot see the Cydia icon. I have listed the remaining issues below.
• Limera1n is only available for windows at the moment. A linux version is to be released shortly. There is no word on a Mac version as yet.
• iOS betas 1, 2 and 3 are not supported with this tool.


Limera1n Supported Firmwares:

• Stock iOS 4.0 for the iPhone 4, 3GS and 3G and the iPod Touch 2G and 3G
• Stock iOS 4.1 for the iPhone 4, 3GS and 3G and the iPod Touch 2G and 3G
• Stock iOS 3.2.2 for the iPad in both Wifi and 3G

• iPhone 4
• iPhone 3GS on both the old and new bootroms
• iPhone 3G is coming soon
• iPod Touch 4G
• iPod Touch 3G
