Use Redsn0w 0.9.6b1 to Jailbreak iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G on iOS 4.1

If you have the final version of the iOS 4.1 on your iPhone 3G or iPod Touch 2G you will be delighted to hear that you can now jailbreak these devices with Redsn0w 0.9.6b1 even if you operate your PC on Windows. The previous version of Redsn0w 0.9.6 was only available for Mac OS X users but the iPhone Dev-Team have done some work on this tool and in its latest release you have Windows built in.

This latest release of Redsn0w is still in beta for the iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G using iOS 4.1 and iOS 4.0. It does how use the same pwnage2 DFU mode exploit but you should note that it does not include the SHAtter exploit that has been developed by pod2g. With this jailbreak there is nothing new being revealed to Apple either which is good news.

There is something that I should point out for anyone wishing to use the Redsn0w 0.9.6b1 jailbreak and that is that if you have an MC model of the iptg2 the jailbreak on your iOS 4.1 will be tethered. This is unfortunate but you can rollback to a FW supported version by using jailbreakme.com or spiritjb.com.

If you currently have and rely on an unlocked iPhone 3G then you are advised not to use this tool because you will lose your Ultrasn0w unlock forever. The Redsn0w tool will jailbreak your iPhone 3G on the iOS 4.1 but in doing this it also updates your baseband to 05.14.02 which is currently unlockable with the current version of Ultrasn0w so you need to be careful if you decide to use Redsn0w.

If you haven’t unlocked your iPhone and you want to jailbreak it then the Redsn0w 0.9.6b1 with Windows built in is the perfect solution.
