Apple’s ‘New’ Jailbreak-Proof iPhone 3GS – Unconfirmed?

News has been rife about Apple’s reported shipment of iPhone 3GS units with a new bootrom, which might help combat hacks enabling installation of unauthorized software putting an end to the jailbreak iphone trend sweeping the iPhone world.

In a recent interview, Eric McDonald, a member of the iPhone Dev-Team has stated that Apple’s attempt to nullify the ‘24kpwnage exploit’ effect will not last as according to him, it will not be impossible to jailbreak iphone even if the said exploit is not there. Also, adding that current tools will still continue to work with the most recent set of iPhone 3GS units (even though the 24kpwn exploit used to facilitate jailbreak the earlier versions of iPhones and iPod Touch devices only made it simpler to boot up the hacked devices).

What makes the dev team confident?

The dev team is confident that the iPhone 3GS’s bootrom which has be recently shipped by Apple (as evident from various sources) will interfere with 24kpwn and make the iPhone device difficult to start up after it shuts down, unless “tethered” to a computer. It is just the extra hassle or else, once your jailbroken iPhone 3GS shuts down, you can turn it back on only by plugging it into a computer.
